Raising the Yurt Gallery
In order to make Earth Heart Farm a place to bring community together for gatherings of ceremony and celebration we needed a venue, well something like a roof over our heads…
The intention had been to renovate the barn that already existed on the property. After many different estimates and appraisals we concluded that endeavor was a bit beyond our ability…
So we dreamed on it and along came the Yurt. Some of you may know that a yurt is a traditional Mongolian tent designed to be erected and broken down easily for a nomadic lifestyle. It is suitable to all sorts of environments and climates. While the Mongols may have moved their smaller yurts around easily our 30’ diameter yurt was built to stay put! It became a community event with numerous hands on deck to help make the raising of the yurt possible…

We have many people to thank but first and foremost is Paul Murtha a dear friend and an amazing carpenter and designer. Paul was in all ways the heart of the Earth Heart Farm Yurt, he made it happen. Paul came and dedicated his time and energy to this project for 17 straight days, even through a good northeastern storm that came at the most in-opportune time, literally blowing the roof off again and again. Beyond his time, tools and skills Paul brought his visionary heart and created not only a sound foundation and deck upon which to raise the Yurt, but his own unique way of creating beauty in design from the heart. We are deeply grateful.
Of course both Jeff and I and our son Daniel were there from start to finish bringing our skills and commitment.
