Yoga Class - Descriptions
Anusara Inspired - classes focus on building a strong foundation in all yoga postures using the primary principles of alignment to bring about "Perfect Freedom". Creating Balance in Body & Heart is emphasized. Breath work and meditation are included. Offered to all levels with modifications for intermediate to advanced students.
Gentle Yoga - is suitable for beginners or students returning to yoga after a long break. Start or renew your practice with a focus on listening to your body in a non-judgmental way, building self-awareness through the breath, postures and meditation. Gentle yoga invites peace and health through compassion with yourself and the world.
Intro to Yoga - a beginners delight, designed to introduce you to basic yoga postures, ease tension and increase relaxation. The perfect 'first step' in yoga. No experience needed. Usually run as a series to build your knowledge base and prepare you to enter other beginner or all level classes.
Man- Made Yoga - Yoga for the more muscular and less flexible. A class open only to men which allows the instructor to address the needs more specific to men, such as: less flexibility, tighter hamstrings, narrower hips, more bulk in the shoulders and chest and also for those of you who have never tried it out before. This is open to all levels.
Yoga Class - Level of Practice Descriptions
Beginner - you are a beginner if you have never taken yoga before or have been away from yoga or other exercise for a period of time, or you have a physical limitation or injury that is not acute and can be managed with props and general modifications. Beginner classes will allow the students time to learn the poses, alignment principles and receive individual verbal or hands-on adjustments based on their needs. The pace of the beginner class may slow due to breaking out of an alignment principle or for demonstrations. These classes are Open to All and even more experienced practitioners can benefit from occasionally taking a beginner class to get back to basics and foundational principles.
All Level - these classes are open to students with varying levels of experience and offers some modifications for both ends of the spectrum, beginners and more experienced students. Classes will be geared towards the majority of the students' ability in the class at the time. Individual attention and modifications are given as possible within a class situation. However if you are extremely new to yoga, have a specific physical limitation or injury you may need to attend Beginner only or Intro to Yoga classes for a period of time before you enter the All Level classes. A beginner student will not be turned away from any All Level classes, however they may be directed to take another more suitable class for them based on individual needs.
Intermediate Level - are classes suited for students who have had a regular ongoing practice, 1-3x's/wk, for at least a year. Poses are more complex and are held for longer periods of time. This is a perfect class to explore and expand your practice; new asanas that have varying levels of difficulty are offered on an ongoing basis. If you are not sure that you are ready for this level of practice you should ask the instructor ahead of time. Beginners, or students without a strong background who show up for an intermediate class may be welcomed to participate with the understanding that the pace of the class does not allow the instructor to offer the individual modifications that are available to them in the beginner, all level or intro to yoga classes. Under certain circumstances a beginner may be asked not to attend an intermediate class for their own safety and the overall flow of the class.
One on One student - you are a one on one student if you are interested in more individualized attention to your specific needs which can include; beginners whom feel more comfortable getting familiar with the practice privately before entering a class, injured students who have the approval of their doctor to move forward with some yoga as therapy for their injury, physically limited in some way due to age, injury, surgery etc. and wish to learn modifications that they can use at home and or in class to assist them with the practice, more experienced students who want to work on a specific advanced pose or taking their overall practice to a higher level.

Earth Heart Yoga Studio Guidelines & Policies
The following guidelines and polices are for the benefit of everyone at the studio participating in yoga classes, workshops or special events. Your consideration in following the guidelines will make everyone's experience here at Earth Heart Yoga a pleasant one.
- Student Registration - please fill out the student registration and liability waiver before your first class. Ask the instructor for one if you did not fill this out.
- Respect your limits - yoga is a personal practice not a comparative one. Each of us has our own individual limits and levels of experience. For your enjoyment practice honoring your limits, only you know when you are pushing too far. Follow the instructions of the teacher carefully and advise them if your body feels pain in any posture. Come out of a pose early if you feel pain and make appropriate modifications to care for the needs of your body. Ask the instructor for modifications if you are uncertain of what they should be. Patience and consistency of practice is what will raise the level of your practice over time, not pushing your self too far too soon.
- Injuries - please advise the instructor of any injuries or specific health conditions such as muscle strains, chronic aches, high or low blood pressure, glaucoma, inner ear disorders, heart conditions or if you are pregnant, prior to the onset of class. This will allow us to assist you properly and offer necessary modifications to the poses.
- Arrival Time - the studio will open 10-15min prior to class, it is best to arrive 5-10 min. before class to settle in, set your space and gather the props you may need for class. All classes begin with a 10-15min centering. To reduce interruptions during centering the door will be locked once class begins, it will be opened again after centering to allow for any late arrivals. If we should forget to re-open the door, please check to see if we are standing and beginning and then you can knock on the door to be let in. The door will then be locked again for the remainder of class. Please do not plan to be allowed into the studio more than 10-15min ahead of class as we are preparing for class at that time.
- Equipment - please bring a sticky mat to your class and follow the instructors guidelines on what props you may need, i.e., strap, blanket, blocks etc. there will be mats for rent if you do not have one of your own and mats for sale if you wish to purchase one at the studio. You may also leave your personal mat, marked with your name, at the studio in the designated area. The studio is not responsible for lost or misplaced mats left at the studio. The studio can help you to purchase any props you may be interested in having for your home practice, please do not borrow studio equipment to use at home.
- Prepared for class - being prepared for class means having appropriate time to set up your space, be properly dressed, and preferably arriving on an empty stomach. Yoga practice works all the internal organs as well as the outer body muscles. It is best to have an empty or near empty stomach. Allow yourself 2-3hrs. After a full meal. Small snacks for energy prior to class are acceptable. Turn off all cell phones and pagers during class.
- Set up - align your mats in rows with the other students so the instructor can easily pass through the rows and make adjustments as needed. When all students are lined up it is easier for an instructor to see when a person is out of alignment.
- Dress code - please wear comfortable clothing that is form fitting rather than too loose so we can better see the actions and alignment of your muscles. Please be sure your attire is appropriately covering all private parts of the body so as not to cause any distractions. Please remove your shoes before entering the studio to avoid scuff marks and wear and tear on the flooring.
- Food & Drink - no food or drink other than water in a covered bottle is allowed in the studio. Be sure to bring water to keep yourself properly hydrated before and after class.
- No Fragrance - please do not use fragrance or strong scented oils in class. Some students are allergic and can suffer in confined spaces with a strong scent.
- Regular Attendance - for best results in your practice we recommend practice 2-3x's/week. This can be in combination with class and an at home practice.
- Questions - we encourage you to ask questions during class for clarification. The more knowledge you have the better able you are to take care of yourself in class and home practice.
- Weather Closings - you can call the studio for updates on class closings or check the website on the class schedule page.
- Minimum Attendance - there must be a minimum of two students for a class to be held.
- Emergency Exits - are the front and side door, and the far left window which has a fire escape. Please do not use the side door in the studio except for emergencies.
